Julie Fliflet joined NCF in mid-April as our Controller, a newly created role designed to strengthen NCF’s internal financial management. Julie will lead all financial operations, including reporting, record-keeping, analysis, budgeting, and the development of fiscal policies. Her expertise will be instrumental as we bring these critical functions in-house for the first time.
Julie has specialized in the nonprofit sector her entire career. She is a graduate of St. Cloud State University with a degree in accounting. Julie is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She brings over 30 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations, starting her career in public accounting as an auditor for a large regional CPA firm in their nonprofit division. She moved on to directing the finance and administration activities for several Twin Cities nonprofit organizations before coming to NCF.
“I’m very excited to join the NCF team and to be a part of work that not only preserves affordable housing, but truly empowers residents and communities to gain stability and security through cooperative ownership,'“ Julie said.
Julie is a long-time resident of the Stillwater area. She and her husband built their family’s home in Lake Elmo over 20 years ago. When she is not crunching numbers, she enjoys golf, baking, time at their family cabin on Big Sandy Lake in McGregor, MN, and coaching her daughter’s softball team. She is a life-long Minnesotan, growing up in Chisago City and graduating from Chisago Lakes High School in Lindstrom.
She fully embraces Minnesota as the “State of Hockey” through one of her favorite activities -- cheering for the Huskies of her alma mater St. Cloud State University as a hockey season ticket holder. She also serves as Treasurer for the Lake Elmo Farmer’s Market. Her daughter graduated high school this year and will be going off to college in the fall which means Julie and her husband will be semi-empty nesters for the first time in 18 years. There is lots of talk of getting a new puppy!
How do you pronounce her last name? – it rhymes with “leaflet.”
