Alexa Hancock joined NCF in April as our new Office Coordinator, stepping into the role previously held by longtime staff member Tom Guettler, who recently retired after many years of dedicated service.
Alexa will provide essential administrative support to the NCF team and serve as the primary coordinator for both the NCF Board of Directors and the Cooperative Loan Fund Board of Governors, NCF’s lending arm. By transitioning this role from part-time to full-time, NCF is making a strong investment in our internal operations to support our continued growth and success. We're excited to have Alexa on board!
Prior to joining NCF, Alexa worked at a credit union in Wisconsin, learning the ropes of a community based financial organization. Her main cooperative experience comes from her time at Seward Community Co-op in South Minneapolis. Alexa became a part of the Seward team during a time of expansion, helping to lead the grocery staff at their new Friendship Store for 8 years.
It’s during that experience that Alexa developed her firm belief in the importance of local food. Further, she learned that a food co-op is more than a place to buy groceries: it’s an invaluable community space that allows everyone a seat at the table and a voice in the decision making process. This fueled her decision to join NCF in order to help establish more cooperatively-owned businesses.
Alexa was raised in Upstate New York (closer to Canada than New York City), moved to the Midwest for college in 2007, and never looked back. She loves traveling to Duluth and the North Shore as often as possible, where she enjoys hiking and eating sandwiches from Northern Waters Smokehouse. During inclement weather, she switches to a game of Skip-bo, backgammon, rook, gin rummy, Phase-10, or Five Crowns. She also loves live music, cooking, and drinking lots of coffee.
